Sotheby's Institute of Art - London is pleased to present exhibition City Diary 1987-2007: prints & drawings by He Weimin.

The works in this exhibition cover a twenty year period dating from 1987-2007. There are 32 works, including 5 brush and ink works, 10 paintings on silk, 16 woodblock prints and one lithograph. All prints are for sale.

He Weimin is an artist from Mudanjiang in Heilongjiang, China. He is a graduate of Harbin Normal University where he studied traditional ink painting and oil painting (1982-1986). His Master’s degree studies (1988-1991) were at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Shenyang, where he studied printmaking under Quan Xianguang and Lu Tan. From 1991, he worked as a professional artist in the Institute of Art in the Heilongjiang Artists’ Association. In 1999, the Muban Foundation, London, awarded He Weimin a scholarship to support his doctoral studies in printmaking at the School of Art and Design, University of Ulster. He was awarded a PhD in 2005.

He Weimin is currently working as artist-in-residence at the Ashmolean Museum, where he is documenting the museum’s renovation work in drawings, paintings and woodcuts. He held a three-year curatorial position of Christensen Fellow of Chinese Painting in the Department of Eastern Art, at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, until earlier this year. He Weimin has been responsible for a number of exhibitions at the Ashmolean Museum, and has acquired for the museum’s collection a major collection of modern Chinese prints published under the title Chinese Prints 1950-2006 in the Ashmolean Museum (2007).
