The Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Singapore Library is a small, specialised resource centre that supports teaching at the Institute. The library provides key resources for the taught elements of the Master’s Degree / Postgraduate Diploma courses during Semesters 1 and 2. These resources enable students to fulfil course work including seminar papers, group projects and cataloguing exercises.

Library Collection


The library has a considerable collection of books and pamphlets covering the modern and contemporary arts. Coverage of specific subject areas includes art business, Asian art, photography, museum and curatorial studies, collections, exhibition catalogues, patronage and connoisseurship.

In addition, the library holds the last two years of Christie’s and Sotheby’s sales catalogues. It subscribes to a number of online bibliographic and image databases as well as art market research databases and also takes several current journal titles in hardcopy format including Art AsiaPacific, Art India, Art Newspaper, Broadsheet, Flash Art, and Yishu.

Bound copies of Sotheby's Institute Master’s dissertations are available for consultation in the library upon request.

V-LIB Web OPAC is the library's online catalogue.

Online Databases


The library subscribes to a number of online bibliographic and image databases as well as art market research databases. Bibliographic databases include: ArtBibliographies Modern, Art Index Retrospective, JSTOR, ArtFulltext, JSTOR and Business Source Premier. Art market research databases include: Art Net, Invaluable and Art Price. The library also subscribes to Bridgeman Education and Artstor for images.

Library Facilities


The institute library provides a one service point with black and white as well as colour photocopying, scanning and printing facility. Cards can be purchased for photocopying. Wireless access is available on all floors of the institute.
