Sotheby’s Institute of Art presents a new round of lectures open to the public. These lectures are complimentary and are held in the evenings at our Institute in Singapore. Venue: 82 Telok Ayer Street, #02-02 Far East Square, Singapore 048467 Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Singapore, Lecture Room One Time: 7.00pm Tuesday 12 October Long Term Investment Strategies for High Net Worth Individuals After the Financial Crisis Lecturer: Mei Jianping This lecture will highlight some of major risks post the financial crisis and provide some historical perspective of China's economic emergence. It then helps investors construct a well balanced portfolio, which takes account of BRIC country development. The assets covered will include art, bonds, commodities, equities, and real estate. Lecturers Tamar Almor Consultant Lecturer, MA Art Business Dr. Tamar Almor is Senior Lecturer at the School of Business Administration, The College of Management, Academic Studies, located in Rishon LeZion, Israel. She is Head Strategy and Entrepreneurship studies and specializes in business strategy, international entrepreneurship, and international business, which she teaches in the MBA program. Also, Dr. Almor currently serves as Dean of Students at the College of Management. Her more recent research has focused on the international behavior and strategy of small, entrepreneurial, Israeli firms (Born Global firms) and high tech firms. She has received various awards for her research among them the L'Oreal award for excellence in research and the Yoram Rozenfeld award for research on high tech companies. She has edited two books on international business and publishes in leading international journals. She received her doctorate from Tel Aviv University, where she teaches until today. In addition to her academic achievements she is Israel's representative in EIBA (the European International Business Academy) and is member of various Boards. Throughout the years she has been consulting to leading Israeli firms. Henry Lydiate Consultant Lecturer, MA Art Business LL.B, University of Newcastle upon Tyne Henry has been a Consultant Tutor at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London since 2002 and in Singapore since 2008. He was commissioned to create and deliver two core Units for the MA in Art Business: Art Law in 2003; Art Business Management and Strategy in 2006. In 2004 he was commissioned to create and deliver an optional Unit, Running a Contemporary Art Business, for the MA in Contemporary Art. His specialist research and teaching areas include: international legal frameworks for art business; international art contracts; international auction practices; commercial and non-commercial museum and gallery management; international intellectual property rights and their management; art business management and strategy. Henry does this work around the edges of his practice as an art business consultant, through The Henry Lydiate Partnership, whose clients include artists, artist's estates, collectors, art market professionals, commercial and non-commercial galleries and museums, and auction houses. Following a Bachelor of Laws degree, Henry was called to the English Bar, and has specialised in the law relating to the creative arts for over 30 years. He writes a regular Artlaw column published in Art Monthly since its first issue in 1976, and his collected articles are published as The Artlaw Archive by Artquest, for which he leads the team of consultants that provides a free on-line advice service: www.artquest.org.uk. Other recent publications include extended essays on Authorship and Authentication (The Art Business, Iain Robertson and Derrick Chong (eds), 2008, Routledge) The Courtroom As Gallery: The Jury As Spectators (The Trials Of Art, Daniel McClean (ed), 2007, Ridinghouse). Henry Lydiate is Visiting Professor in Art Law at the University of the Arts, London. Howard Rutkowski Director, Fortune Cookies Project Having studied art history at Tufts University, and New York University’s Institute of Fine Art, Howard Rutkowski joined Sotheby’s New York in 1979, where he served as a specialist. A thirteen-year career at Sotheby’s culminated in his appointment as Managing Director of Sotheby’s Korea, where he also acted as the Western painting specialist for the entire Far East. In 1999, he was appointed head of Impressionist and Modern Art at Phillips New York, and worldwide head of fine arts. Howard’s first foray into Asia was in 1987, and since then he has been active in all aspects of the primary and secondary markets in the region. In 2006, Howard joined with Mary Dinaburg to form Fortune Cookie Projects (New York & Singapore), a curatorial and advisory company. Jianping Mei Consultant Lecturer, MA Art Business Jianping Mei is a tenured associate professor of finance at the Stern School of Business, New York University. His major areas of research include international asset pricing and real asset finance. He has published over 30 articles in American Economic Review, Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Real Estate Economics, and other academic journals. He has received several "Best Research Paper Awards" from various academic organizations. Jianping has been a consultant and advisor to some of the largest financial institutions in the world, including Prudential Insurance of America, Fidelity Investment, UBS Warburg, NCH Capital, W.P. Carey, and Asia Development Bank. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University. Mary Dinaburg Director, Fortune Cookies Project Mary Dinaburg is a graduate of Pratt Institute, with an MFA in painting. She has also taught at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and at the Pratt Institute. During the 1980s she served as director of the Jack Shainman Gallery. Mary also served as a consultant to the Kirov Theatre in St Petersburg, Russia, to assist with their cultural marketing. Additional clients include Saks Fifth Avenue, and Hermès in New York. She also worked with Firmenich, the Swiss perfume company, to provide special in-house programs about creativity and the creative process. Possessing over 30 years of experience in the business, and with extensive knowledge of markets throughout Asia, in 2006 she joined with Howard Rutkowski to form Fortune Cookie Projects (New York & Singapore), a curatorial and advisory company. Nilanjan Consultant Lecturer, MA Art Business PhD in Sociology NUS Singapore, MA in Sociology and Anthropology Roehmapton Institute, London, MBA Business Administration and BSc Business Administration.United States International University, San Diego USA (now Alliant International University). Nilanjan has lived, studied and worked in England, Kenya, India, Singapore, United Kingdom and United States. She brings with her a broad experience of having taught Sociology at the National University of Singapore as a fellow and having worked as a research grants/proposal advisor and administrator. Prior to her teaching career, Nilanjan has had many years of independent business consulting and market research experience. She has very good knowledge about Indian and Kenyan art and is herself a collector. She continues to teach dissertation writing and research methodology to local and international students besides various other courses. Nilanjan speaks five languages. * * * * * The faculty maintains strong links with the international art and business worlds, as demonstrated by the network of industry professionals who visit the Institute as guest speakers to share their insights and experience. In addition to the many commercial art events which take place in Singapore throughout the year which students are encouraged to attend as complimentary to the course, visits are also arranged to dealers, galleries and museum in Singapore.
